ORGANISATION
‘Young Dancers Competition’ is a dance competition organised by Magali Berael (Ballerino vzw), with the purpose of connecting dancers and dance schools from Belgium and Europe, in an international atmosphere.
The competition will take place Friday 19, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 April, 2024 in the ‘Vormingscentrum Destelheide’ in Dworp, Belgium

FOR WHO ?
The competition is open to all dancers starting from the age of 7 years old, dancing in an academy, conservatory, private school, (semi-) professional school, … An exception can be allowed with the approval of the organisation.

CATEGORIES/LEVELS
Attention! Registration can take place up to May, 6th 2022 in every category, but places are limited. Once the limit is reached for the number of solo’s, duo’s/trio’s or groups in each category, registration will no longer be accepted.
Every candidate must register in the correct category, according to their exact age on the first day of the competition. An exception can be allowed but only with the approval of the organisation.
Candidates can participate in classical ballet, contemporary as well as jazz and in solo’s, duo’s, trio’s as well as groups. Every dance teacher may use the same choreography a maximum of 3 times.
1. Solo
CLASSICAL BALLET
There is no elimination round, every dancer performs 1 choreography, except for the level ‘senior-pre-pro’ where the dancers must perform 2 solo’s.
Girls
Category ‘amateur’: 1 to 2 dance lessons per week
Category ‘pre-pro’: 3 dance lessons or more per week
Mini: 7-8 years old (cannot be 9 years old on the day of the competition)

Repertoire-variations are only allowed in the category ‘Senior-pre-pro’ and must conform to the repertoires danced by professional ballet companies. It is not allowed to mix different repertoire versions together.
The jury has the right to take measures in case the rules are not respected. This could mean the dancer is transferred to another category or that the dancer is disqualified.
CONTEMPORARY
There is no elimination round, every dancer performs 1 choreography.
Girls

2. Duo/trio
Choreography from 2 min – 2.45 min maximum.
2 to 3 participants per choreography.

Both free variations as well as choreographies from classic repertoires are allowed.
Kids: 7 – 14 years old
Adults: 15 – 25 years old
CONTEMPORARY
Kids: 10 – 14 years old
Adults: 15 – 25 years old
JAZZ
Kids: 7 – 14 years old
Adults: 15 – 25 years old
3. Groups
Choreography from 3 min – 5 min maximum.
5 participants or more per choreography.

DRESS CODE/ACCESOIRIES/DECOR
Solo’s classical ballet:
- in costume
- accessories are not permitted, except for repertoire-variations
- décor is not permitted
Solo’s (modern) jazz:
- in costume
- small accessories are permitted, as long as they do not hinder the following candidate
- décor is not permitted
Duo/trio/groep klassiek en (modern) jazz:
- in costume
- accessories are permitted, as long as they do not hinder the following candidate
- décor is permitted, as long as it does not take more than 30 seconds to set up and to take down. Candidates are responsible for setting up and taking down their own décor.
Tip: costumes should not be too extravagant, the body of the dancer should be visible and the costume should not distract from the choreography or the dancer…’Less is more’.
MUSIC
The time duration of the choreographies must be respected, as stated in the section ‘Categories/Levels’, if this rule is not followed, the candidate can be eliminated.
In the classical ballet competition, music with text is not permitted.
The music should end nicely, with no abrupt endings and be recorded clearly.
The music must be uploaded before January 10, 2020 via the link in the confirmation mail
During the competition, it is expected that each candidate has a reserve CD with them, with a copy of their music. There should be only 1 song per CD, the name of the candidate, ballet/contemporary/jazz and the category written on it.
Attention ! It is recommended to use a CD-R, not a CD-RW nor DVD!
PRIZES
Young Dancers Award for classical ballet, contemporary and for jazz
(only for ‘teen’ and ‘senior’ categories)
Per category: 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize + 1st en 2nd honorable mention (4th + 5th prize)
Extra prizes per category:
Talent Award Junior, for the most promising dancer younger than 13 years old
Talent Award Amateur, for the most promising dancer in the category ‘amateur’,
Best choreografie,
Best boy
+ other prizes such as dance workshops and gift certificates.
Every participant will receive a diploma.
It is the sole decision of the jury whether any prizes or awards will be handed out.
PHOTO/VIDEO
Every participant (and the parents of participants who are ‘minors’) declare their agreement that photographs of the dancer can be taken and used for the purposes of the ‘Young Dancer Competition’.
Taking photographs and/or filming during the competition is strictly forbidden. A professional photographer and video team will be present the whole weekend.
PUBLIC
The public may attend the competition; entrance tickets will be sold at reception.
Only dance teachers with a badge may enter free of charge.
Due to limited seating in the auditorium, screens will be placed with live streaming
FOOD/DRINKS
It is forbidden to bring your own food and drinks to the competition, this applies to dancers, coaches, helpers and the public.
On the online registration form, small or large meals can be ordered, advance ordering of meals is mandatory.
Drinks and snacks can be bought at the competition.
Lunch and dinner breaks will be taken from 12:00 to 13:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00 respectively.
Eating and drinking are not allowed in the theater, workshop locations and rehearsal areas.
JURY
The jury is composed of the biggest names and internationally renowned personalities of the dance world, for classical ballet, contemporary as well as for jazz. The decision of the jury is final and no appeal is possible.
WORKSHOPS
During the ‘Young Dancers Competition’, participants can register for workshops that will be given by well-known names out of the dance world, for classical ballet, contemporary as well as for jazz.
Saturday
9:00 to 10:15: classical ballet for teens and seniors (duo/trio/group: adults)
10:45 to 12u00: classical ballet for mini, petite and juniors (duo/trio/group)
18:00 to 19:15: contemporary for teens and seniors (duo/trio/group: adults)
19:15 tot 20:30: contemporary for petite and juniors (duo/trio/group: kids)
Sunday
11:00 tot 12:15: jazz for teens and seniors (duo/trio/group: adults)
13:00 tot 14:15: jazz for mini, petite and juniors (duo/trio/group: kids)
Once the maximum number of dancers per workshop is reached, no more registrations will be accepted.
Only dance teachers with a badge may attend the workshops.
INSURANCE
The liability of the organisers, both civil and criminal, cannot be incurred for any bodily or material injury caused to any candidates, coaches, helpers or members of the public during the competition, this also includes during the lessons, the rehearsals, workshops or any travel linked to the competition.
The organiser of the competition and her entire team as well as the managers of the theater, decline all responsibility in the event of theft or any other damages suffered whatsoever by the candidates, coaches, helpers or public.
Candidates must be covered by their own liability insurance.
REGISTRATION FEE
Solo: 70 euro for 1 discipline
- 115 euro for 2 disciplines
- 144 euro for 3 disciplines
Duet: 35 euro per participant
Trio: 25 euro per participant
Group: 15 euro per participant
Workshop: 20 euros per workshop per candidate, regardless if a soloist, in a duo, trio or in group.
Under no circumstances will the registration fee be refunded, unless the competition is cancelled by the organization. Registration is personal and cannot be transferred.
The registration of a candidate is only accepted when all of the following documents are submitted to the organisation:
- complete online registration (by the parents for minors)
- 1 recent passport photo
for Belgian participants: payment of the registration fee online to the bank account of ‘Ballerino vzw’
for non-Belgian participants: payment of the registration fee online to the bank account of ‘Ballerino vzw’ or if agreed by the organisation, cash on the day of registration.
By registering to the competition, the participant (or parents of minors) declares his/her agreement to the regulations, as well as to the decisions of the jury.
By not respecting the regulations or showing any form of inappropriate behaviour during the competition/workshops, will result in the candidate’s immediate elimination from the competition.
The organisers have the right to change the schedule based on the number of participants.
FORCE MAJEURE
Cancellation or postponement due to Force Majeure
1.1 In case of Force Majeure, the organisation of Young Dancers Competition reserves the right to postpone or cancel the competition, without any compensation. In these cases, there will be no reimbursement of entry fees, who will be reusable for a competition that will be held on a later date. Entry fees are personal and non-transferable.
1.2 Force Majeure is any external and unforeseen circomstance that makes the realisation of the obligation impossible and for which the debtor of the obligation can not be blamed, including but not limited to:
a) Natural disasters, flood, drought, earthquake, hurricane, volcanic eruption or other natural disaster;
b) epidemics and pandemics (including communicable disease outbreaks and public health emergencies1) whether identified, declared or accepted as such under the relevant laws and/or regulations or not;
c) terrorist attack, civil war, civil commotion, civil unrest, civil protests, riots, war, threat of or preparation for war, armed conflict, imposition of sanctions, embargo or breaking off of diplomatic relations;
d) breakdown of law and order for a period exceeding 48 hours where the normal business activities cannot be carried on;
